Prologue in The Subway

U2:youToo – Episode 1 (storiette)

Eye Contact
Eye Contact

Call me spoxx. Long ago – never mind how long exactly – I developed a habit of roaming the subways whenever I felt like `the ceiling was about to drop on my head` (as the say goes in my native tongue).
Whenever I felt such state of mind take possession of me, I’d leave the cage of my study to dive into the sea of faces, bodies, smells, and sounds of the subway. These excursions offered me such experience of sensual alertness, of which my books and papers so often seemed to talk, yet never gave an opportunity of seeing, feeling, touching, breathing…
Yes, it was kind of a voyeuristic intention that drove me – and the vague promise of satisfaction, these subway rides offered to me.
But look!
In the lorn hours of the early morning, they sit on insular spots in utmost distance from each other. During rushhours, they seem equipped with an invisible burka to fence themselves off from the presence of their neighbors. There sight is fixed on the headline of this morning’s gazette; they gaze onto the pale screens of their smartphones or iPads; they stare away towards an intangible distance or out beyond the reflections of the subway window into the motion-blurred darkness of the tunnel walls.
And in the faint nights, like an echo from their distant fears and cravings, it clanks from their white earplugs…

See boy Strange
As an example of You
So close to the truth
But still far away

…and then came today. And then there was an eye contact. And then it all began.

U2:youToo – Project Proposal

Eye Contact
Eye Contact

This is to me a test-project – for the moment.

When I first heard about Poiesipedia, and the „Literary Cities 2012 Intervention“ via labkultur.tv, I was instantly intrigued: Here, there were some people who embraced the idea of artistic collaboration, and combined it in a project with the revolutionary vision of a newly perceived concept of authorship, creation, copyright, and distribution… -
I spread the link over twitter and facebook, and soon received an eMail from Poiesis software developer Bernd Wurm, who encouraged me to try it out – so here I am.

I would like to propose an idea, as part of the „Literary Cities 2012 intervention“, that I have been contemplating for quite a while.

The working title is “U2:youToo”
- and it’s basically meant to be a documentary transmedia storytelling experience, based on video, instagram-photography, sounds, and text.
It’s the story of people living along the U2 subway line in Munich, Germany. This subway runs beneath the city in a long curve down from the North, around the city center, and out to the East, crossing a wide spectra of different social milieus: work- or living quarters of a diverse variety of postmodern environments and peer groups.
Camera-excursions along the U2, and into the surrounding quarters should bring us in contact with people on the subway; we`ll talk with them about how they feel: living their lives the way they do; about their greatest fears and desires…
We publish these conversations online, as we go (along with situational observations), enjoying, and sharing with our „followers“ the mere adventure of close encounter: open to, and craving for both, the common, and the unexpected – an urban road movie in-the-making, with the opportunity for the audience to interact and participate.
This setup might even serve as a blueprint for others in other cities of the world, to go on similar excursions: adding to what might develop into a mosaic of global urban living…

In a second stage, fragmenting the recorded statements out of context, and re-mixing them along the lines of  underlying structures of speech and meme, should reveal some surprising insight into a contemporary collective postmodern consciousness -
- an experiment, the German Author Paul Wühr has, for his era, executed in his award-winning radio play “Preislied” of 1970/71. Although we are not planning a contemporary visual remake of his radio play, we owe to him great appreciation as a pioneer of this literary conception, method, and technique.

It is my greatest desire in connection with this project, to integrate the persons we interview, and the „followers“ (formerly known as „the audience“ ;-) ), into the ongoing further development of the project, and to encourage them to take active parts in the process through a multitude of social Media channels, like twitter, Facebook, youTube, or blog comments, or even to collaborate by contributing own media (audio, video, photo, text) to the project.
All content of “U2:youToo” should be published under an appropriate license which allows for remix and free distribution. Although it is not my primary goal, I also see a number of opportunities to monetize on such a project, through  crowdfunding events, dvd, or print media sales, or experimental forms of merchandise…

So, seen from my side, I have the feeling, that “U2:youToo” and the “Literary Cities 2012” may turn out to be a perfect match
- what do you think?

This is a slightly revised cross-post from the original project proposal over at Poiesipedia.

U2:youToo – A Project Proposal is on it’s Way…

U2:youToo
U2:youToo - a collaborational transmedia experience

My dear friends!

After many month of roaming the online-world, of reading, and learning from your projects; after many conversations with you on twitter, facebook, and in the comments of some of your blogposts, I now have the feeling that it’s time for me to put into practice what I’ve been learning, and try my own project.

Today, I proposed a concept to the POIESIPEDIA-community for their „Literary Cities 2012 Intervention“, hoping, that my proposal may fit in with their own ideas and visions.

I think, it’s only fair to let the POIESIPEDIA -community discuss the idea internally, before I tell you more about it. So, for the moment, I’ll reveal to you only that much:

It’s going to be an urban road movie.
It’s going to be documentary, transmedia, participatory, and collaborational…
…and, hopefully, it’s going to be fun!

There are going to be plenty of occasions for you to hook up on a whim (or cut it out again). So, if I’ve caught your attention, you’re cordially invited to join the conversation here on my blog, on twitter #u2project, or in more places to come.

If you want to go and look and poke around for the first few traces, bits and pieces dropped on the internet, just google #u2project, and keep tuned in…
